Where I’ve Been Lately 2008

Best Viewed Large.
Two years ago I published a graphic showing the favicons of places that I’d recently visited on the internet. I thought I’d take some time (a few hours actually) this afternoon to revisit and refresh that graphic. In order to see this graphic best I’d recommend clicking through the image to Flickr and then clicking on the magnifying glass above the graphic on Flickr to view full size. Best viewed large I suppose as they say.
If you’d like to add a note with a hyperlink to a url for any site feel free.
The image above represents only some of the websites that I’ve visited in the past 2 weeks. The list does not include everywhere I’ve been on the internet. I’ve only chosen to share sites in this graphic that have favicons that pop up when you visit them. Probably about half of the sites that I visit (my own included) don’t have favicons. The above graphic contains 330 different internet sites that I’ve visited.
Some stats on my internet activity over the course of the past 2 weeks. From May 15 until today I have visited 12,601 pages on the internet on my primary laptop computer (MacBook Pro). I have visited more pages than this because this is not my only computer. In addition to my primary MacBook Pro, I have three other PCs that I use regularly to surf the internet. I estimate that I probably load a little over 1,000 internet pages a day.
The number one site that I’ve visited over the past 2 weeks has been FriendFeed. The number 2 site I’ve visited over the past 2 weeks has been flickr. These two sites represent over half of my internet activity over the past 2 weeks.
Below is a list of sites that are included in this graphic.

Day One Hundred Fifty One

151/365. It’s like a ghost town out here. I see the random, not so smart people, riding scooters every now and then ~ Mark Darress
Here’s a scooter. Yeah, that’s pretty much it.
On the news front, I got around to buying a new domain for my newly designed blog (same blog, new look and name). Check it out at thestrobistden.com. I am completely aware that 95% of the folks reading this are interested in only the 365… but I’m just preparing for "post-365" when I’m doing normal photography again. I also chose the name Strobist Den because it will allow me to focus more on a narrow topic rather than "anything photography" which usually causes me to think too much (must avoid brain aneurysms).
And finally, I wanted to call out those who bring up the "Nikon vs. Canon" hoopla. Some asked if I have switched, others think I take better pictures with a Canon.
No, I haven’t switched. I’m borrowing my wife’s camera — but I don’t expect anyone to keep up with my daily writings. The D700 is still in shop, although I plan on selling it for a D3 when it comes back.
And as I always say, anyone who thinks their photos are better because of a camera, is… not very intelligent to put it nicely. Especially when comparing two pro cameras like a 5D2 and a D3. In simple terms, I could have probably taken this same shot with both cameras and nobody would be able to tell the difference. Probably not even myself.
Ok, enough blabber. I made another video, but don’t expect these to last much longer — I’m just having some fun for the interim.

That’s some dedication to compile something like that.
Cool !!
Nice
Best one of the bunch: KFC.com… ;p
Best one of the bunch: KFC.com… ;p
Sometimes all that internet surfing makes you hungry.
Seen in a darckr view of your pics (mine, ?).
This is very cool. Would be very cool very large.
Thomas, what plugin to Firefox do you use to count all the sites? ("From May 15 until today I have visited 12,601 pages on the internet on my primary laptop computer (MacBook Pro).")
So happy we (http://thenextweb.org) made the list! Thanks…
Happy to see we (Pilcrow Lit Fest) made your list as well.
Great!
agree !
Ah nice stuff as always any ideas how much you might sell the d700? i’m debating to upgrade from my d300 =P
amazing photograph
Beautiful Take. U always done great.
Fantastic shot sir!
Whoa, the basket is glowing! Very cool lighting.
I cannot tell the different between Canon shots and Nikon shots at all…
vespa! e mangi le mele….
Great job done.
I think the leaf/tree in the upper left corner should be cut out it’s a little distracting, but as always cool shot!
loving the light on this one a lot!!!!!!!!
great shot, as always!
lovin the vids man. keep it up!
Great photo and love the videos and setup shots.. keep it going. It’s both motivating and resource full learning. And by the way, just keep doing what every feels right to you.. don’t let others dictate how, what, when and where you should shoot.
One other note… If you got time, maybe you could do an comment on you post processing workflow.
Dustin eres un fiera!!
sweet scooter – I’ve gotta disagree with the guy a few comments up, I think the leaf/flower thing adds to the shot.
And totally agree with the nikon/canon thing – it’s always struck me as a little silly to be arguing which is better.
do u ever take a bad picture… jerk lol jk great shot you’ve done what i considered to be impossible…… you made a scooter look cool lol
I like the shot, something different. It has made the scooter very slick.
The Canon v Nikon thing is a nonsense really. Whatever fits. Each has Pros and Cons. I recently switched to Nikon, a D700, but have kept my Canon 40D as I think it is a cracking camera for other situations. I looked at the 5D MK II nad felt the D700 fitted my purposes better.
I am a member of a gamer forum and you should see the childish arguments that erupt between PS3 and 360 users!!!
Another pure beauty.
Love this night life photos!!
nice..! again.
LOL, I still think I prefer the Canon shots.
agreed on the better camera = better pictures. A better raquet won’t suddenly make me play like nadal. as always, perfect light balance and would love to upgrade from my d80 to a full frame like the d700!
Thanks again for another great video tutorial. I’m learning so much for your videos! You’re the man!
Splendid.
Canon or Nikon, your pics rocks! Great job!
amazing
At a party some one asked me what was the best camera (spying my D700) The answer I gave was this:
The BEST camera out there is the one you have with you!
I think you would do well with a Polaroid!
Il like the way the light shines on the front of the scooter…….

Seen in my contacts’ photos. ( ?² )
Hello Dustin , since you touch the topic canon nikon, good I think that a good photographic eye can do a good photo, with an any camera, the photo is to express the life, the things in it takes, that logically he says very much.
Differences will have them Nikon does more noise to major iso, canon is acceptable, little noise to major iso. For example
I have used Nikon it is very expensive for my taste, canon is a little cheaper for my pocket. lol
It is a taste question….
It does not matter your work is very good and I like very much.
Lo mas cojonudo son los strobist, molan mucho….
Un saludo Amigo….
Cheersssssssssssss
woooooooow
nice lights
Nice picture and nice lighting as always
I put your website in my fav! Can’t wait to see more

Seen on your photo stream. (?)
You mean good photography has something to do with the brain behind the viewfinder? Good lighting, good bokeh….keep doing what you love.
Seen in my Contacts.
Great shot as always.
Why "The Strobist Den"? Aren’t you concerned with being confused with the blog "The Strobist" which has a huge following already on Flickr as well as his blog? I would think you would want to establish something uniquely your own? Just wondering.
Great work!
As a beginner photographer, I am just starting to learn what all those buttons on my camera actually do. I love the fact that I can look at a photo Dustin did and then actually see how he accomplished it. Although I would agree about the art and eye of photo taking and that it can be accomplished with any camera. From what I learned over the weekend in trying to do some shallow depth of field shots… And wondering why it wasn’t working… It seems that a good lens with a low f stop is Really important! Especially if you when trying to replicate the way Dustin’s images are focused on a item and you get that really cool blur background. Again, I’m a beginner so there might be a way of getting this effect without the expensive low fstop lenses that i just might not be aware of.
scooters so sexy…
Great shot!
Nice dark colours ..!
Dustin, there is something about your shots what makes me always look them up. Love the feeling you put in them. Thank you for that. As for this one, I love it except for the slightly blueish cast on the front front wheel. Not sure if it was intentional or not.
D2 thanks again for another awesome shot. Part of the draw to a photographer such as yourself is the awesome personality that goes along with each image. A lot of photographers just snap away and expect people to like there images. You orchestrate each image and seem truly grateful for the praise and recognition. It’s greatly appreciated. I also agree with the point about the camera and the photographer. Just because you have the fastest car, doesn’t mean you know how to drive it around the track! Thanks man!
You’ve inspired me to start my own 365. Keep up the awesome job!
